The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist

The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist is the sacrifice of the Body and Blood of the Lord Jesus, which he instituted to perpetuate the sacrifice of the cross throughout the ages until his return in glory. He entrusted this Sacrament to his Church: the memorial of his death and Resurrection, which is Celebrated in the Mass. It is a sign of unity, a bond of charity, in which the Real Presence of Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us. Because of this Real Presence, we also adore the Lord, reserved in the tabernacle of the Church.

Sacrament of Penance

Sacrament of Baptism

​

       The Sacrament of Baptism is usually Celebrated on a Sunday either during the Celebration of the Holy Eucharist or later in the day.  Parents should contact the Pastor to arrange for a meeting to discuss parental obligations and the requirements for godparents.

Sacrament of Confirmation

​

The usual time to Celebrate this Sacrament is at the end of Elementary School.

However, if this Sacrament was missed at the time, it can be Celebrated any time.

​

                 The Sacrament of Confirmation completes Baptism by calling down the Holy Spirit                             with special gifts for living a Christian life.

Sacrament of Holy Matrimony

​

Diocesan policy requires twelve months of preparation before Marriage.  Contact the Pastor as soon as possible after engagement.  No venue reservations or other arrangements should be made prior to meeting with the pastor.  The celebration usually takes place on a Saturday prior to the Sacrament of Penance.

​​Sacrament of the Sick

​

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick should be requested when a person is gravely ill.

The Sacrament should also be Celebrated before major surgery.  You or your immediate family member should contact Pastor or the Catholic Chaplain at the hospital.

 

Last Rites

Celebrated when a person is near death.  The Last Rites consist of prayers for the dying and, if possible, the reception of Holy Communion under the form of viaticum (food for the journey Home).

Holy Orders

​

In the Diocese of Harrisburg, ordination, or the conferring of the Sacrament of Holy Orders, occurs at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Harrisburg. The Sacrament confers the Diaconate and Priesthood. 

St. Ignatius church supports not only seminarians, but also working and retired priests and religious. We continually ask our Lord for an increase in vocations.
